Concord Primary School Choir was established in 2000 as a Dancing Choir and integrated as Soprano / Alto choir in 2003. It has since established itself as a recognized Choir nationally and internationally, having clinched many awards, including the highest accolade of Distinction in Singapore Youth Festival Art Presentation for Choirs in 2018, 2016, 2014 and Gold with Honours award in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging of Choirs in 2012. Concord Choir also won the Gold award in the Voices of Asia Kuala Lumpur in 2013 and the Gold award in the International Winter Choral Festival in Hong Kong in 2012 amongst a competitive field of school choirs from around the world.
Concord’s commitment to its school choir and the dedication of its teachers, have helped the choristers develop a strong sense of discipline and passion for vocal training through the sensitive interpretation of their senses. The unity and devotion of the choristers can often be heard in the beauty and elegance of each song performed by the children.
The choir has also been invited to perform at various public performances, including the prestigious World Choral Festival at the Victoria Concert Hall in 2008, the inaugural Cultural Festival at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall in 2011, the SYF Choral Presentation in 2012 and the SYF Celebrations at the Gardens by the Bay in 2014.
In 2013, the choir was invited by the National Library Board to produce the “Read Singapore” theme song, “I’m Gonna Read a Book Today”. The Okto television channel has also produced an episode of the choir on their “After School” series to showcase the choristers’ passion of singing. The choir was also honoured to be selected by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to represent Singapore to sing the National Anthem at the 2013 Formula One Singtel Singapore Grand Prix.
To keep improving, the choristers are taught various singing techniques and exposed to a wide repertoire of songs in different international languages. The school’s support for the children to attend concerts by prestigious choirs all over the world and the choir exchanges have also enriched the choristers as they learn from each other. With the holistic approach to vocal training, we are hopeful that the choristers will soar to greater heights in singing.
